Security forces along with a local tabbe are misallocating funds allocated to the displaced persons in Mamra, Kyauktaw, according to our local correspondent.
The government recently allocated a million kyats to each displaced family in the area for rebuilding their old houses that were burned down in the 2012 riots. However the local Aishwaramu Noor Ahmed told the affected people that since he was responsible for all the hard work that convinced the international community and the government to compensate them, he would be taking 100,000 kyats from every million.
Additionally, rest of the 900,000 kyats would not be handed down to the victims. Instead the money will be used to purchase the raw materials required for the new houses. The raw materials must be brought from Noor and the security forces will be supplying them.
The affected people refused to comply with Noor’s orders. As a result in the last two days, there is an increased security presence in the area threatening the local populace.
