Bangladesh Coast Guard stopped 38 Rohingya refugees trying to enter the country from Shahpuri Deep, according to our correspondent.
Six women, four children and 28 men were trying to enter Bangladesh territory on Monday from this point.
One of the women, Asiya Bibi (27) said that police and their Rohingya collaborators known as the tabbe were oppressing single women like herself. Asiya’s husband had drowned in a journey to Malaysia.
“At night the tabbe, sometimes with police comes to my home and makes offers,” said Asiya. As she did not repond to this offer, they extorted a huge sum of money from her. Asiya lives in Hathiyapara of Maungdaw.
Many of them said that life as a Muslim in Burma was gradually becoming impossible. Some of the men said that they were forbidden to move out of their neighbourhood in search of work. As a result their families including the children spent many of their days without food.
