Security forces are combing villages in Rathedaung to search and arrest anyone from Rajar Bil. Rohingya Muslim men from Rajar Bil fled their village in the face of arbitrary arrest and torture.
As a result of the crackdown, Muslim villagers in Rathedaung are passing their days in immense agony.
Almost a fortnight ago, six men went missing from police custody in Kiang Dong near Rajar Bil village. Police blamed villagers from Rajar Bil in aiding the arrest and at first arrested three of the sons and one brother of four of the missing men. They were tortured in custody for a week and released after the payment of a substantial bribe.
Later on, police arrested at least ten men including one government collaborator who they accuse of being a Muslim spy.
All the arrested are being tortured in custody.
As police and BGP seemed to arrest every man in Rajar Bil, the villagers left their homes and began spending their nights in nearby villages. As the situation deteriorated, they went away altogether.
In response, police and BGP raided other villages in Rathedaung and arrested and tortured many Muslims.
So far raids have taken place in Firing Dong, Sohag para, Ora para, Nilam Bahara, Lamar para, Anak parang and Kudong.
Incidentally villagers from Rajar Bil have been targeted for the past few weeks even before the case of these missing men. Last month BGP killed a 14 year girl Khaleda Begum for no reason. Before that a few Rohingya men were tortured for insisting they were not Bengalis. During the torture, some of the men had their beards burned.
