Police are adopting renewed security measures amidst a torrent of social media propaganda claiming Daesh (ISIL) terrorists are gathering in Arakan at the behest of the Rohingyas.
In the past few days, propaganda perpetuated by the Ma Ba Tha movement have increased in volume. There is a systematic campaign to convince the Burmese people that the Rohingyas are sheltering Daesh terrorists.
The Arakan state authorities dominated by Rakhine allies of the Ma Ba Tha movement are supporting this campaign of vilifying Rohingyas, according to actovists. Our sources also support this allegation.
On Monday, local government collaborators confirmed that the police are preparing a renewed crackdown against Daesh terrorists.
In July, security forces led a raid against imagined Daesh terrorists using it as a cover to rape women and detain men, many who were brutally tortured in custody. Many Rohingyas found with Bangladeshi mobile phones were also accused of keeping in touch with Daesh terrorists based in Bangladesh.
Observers say the terror group based in the Middle East has no presence in Myanmar and has minimal influence in neighbouring countries.
