Arakan Army guerrillas are saying they will use their military strength to bring the government to the negotiating table.
Speaking to our correspondents based in Mrauk U, Arakan Army guerrillas said the government negotiated with the Wa and the Shan because they had military might. Similarly the Arakan Army also needed to muster enough military might so that the government would be forced to negotiate with them.
The guerrillas said one day the Arakan Army would achieve the same status as the United Wa State Army. Although the objective of the Arakan Army is the independence of the Rakhine fatherland, the supporters said realistically that would not be possible. However the Arakan Army could achieve the status as the United Wa State Army and have a semi-independent terrain in the areas near the Bangladesh border, the guerrillas stated.
