Security forces are looking for the ‘green cap’ man who escaped the army in Char Kombhu bazar of Maungdaw.
On Wednesday, a Rohingya man came to the market place wearing a green cap. Two military personal came up to him and accused him of wearing a military cup. The man said he was wearing it to protect him from the rain. In reply, one of the soldiers said that the Rohingya man must have killed an army officer and taken his cap! They then proceeded to brutally assault him, kicking him in the head and the ribs.
In a desperate attempt, the man pushed one of the soldiers away and escaped. The soldiers then called for back up on the phone crying that the Rohingyas were attacking them. Within minutes, more than a hundred soldiers turned up and they sealed the entire area.
By the time the army arrived, many of the Rohingyas had fled the area. Those left behind were surrounded by the army. However soon high ranking officers arrived in the scene and told the soldiers that the international media is focused on Arakan in light of the migrant crisis and no action should be taken at the moment.
The army went back on Thursday and ordered the locals to hunt down the man with the green cap. Locals said the man was unknown to them.
