Buthidaung Correspondent: A Rohingya minor girl has been violated by an army personal of Cantonment no 234 in Buthidaung Township on 28th of Feb, 2016 at around 4:00 pm.
The victim was identified as Asmida Begum 9 D/O Kadir Hussain of Kyauk Pyu Taung village of Buthidaung Township, Sittway (Akyab).
According to competent source, while the girl along with some other boys was cow herding in the field near the Cantonment no 234, one of her cow walked close to the fences of Cantonment. Then the girl accompanied by another cowherd went to bring back the cow from near the fences.
Seeing the cowherds, one of the army personal came out and caught the two cowherds inside the fences. There, the boy was confined in a room and the girl was raped in another room. But the boy managed to flee away from confinement in a room through the window after a while and informed the other cowherds and the people working in the vegetables firms nearby about the girl.
Later, when the girl was searched of, she was found lying inside the fence in an unconscious state. Then the victim was carried from inside the cantonment premise and kept at a hut in the potato firm near the cantonment. Then a cowherd ran to the village and informed the victim’s parents who rushed to the hut where the girl was kept by the rescuers.
The victim’s father at once informed the matter to an army major who investigated into the incident. Then the major had informed the case to different army officials of the cantonment.
When the raped girl became conscious at 7:00 pm, she was asked details about the incident and the rapist was identified according to her statement.
When the rapist was interrogated about the rape incident by his officials, he first refused but eventually confessed his fault, said a villager.
The army official said to the guardian of the victim, the rapist is a new person, he is not a legal army personal and he will be handed over to the police for taking action against him as civil person. But it is just a pretending satisfactory explanation to the guardians by the army official that the rapist is going to be handed over to the police but, in fact no action will be taken, said a villager.
After that the army informed the police based in Lawedet Pyin Che of Buthidaung and handed the victim over to the police. Then the victim was rushed to the Buthidaung General Hospital by police at 11:00 pm.
The victim is from a very poor family and her parents are begging alms for the expenses of the violated girl’s treatment. No one from any government quarters has taken the responsibility of treatment to the victim.
It is a matter of great concern that my minor daughter has been raped by the army personal and there is no sign of possibility of taking action against the culprit and none is to provide treatment to my raped daughter in my fateful days as well, where and how can I get justice, the guardian of the victim said in grief.
