Rakhine miscreants brutally assaulted a Rohingya man and chased away eight others in Mebong. The victim was handed to the police and further tortured.
On Saturday, nine Rohingya fishermen from the IDP camp at Mebong took permission from the authorities to go fishing in the river which is off limits for the Muslim community.
As they ventured into the rivers, some miscreants cursed at them and attempted to apprehend them. The terrified Rohingyas ran away towards the IDP camp but one of them were caught.
The victim was ruthlessly beaten up by the Rakhines and handed over to police. The police then tortured him into revealing the identities of the other fishermen.
The eight others have been ordered to report to police.
Residents of the IDP camp have no access to livelihood and much depleted rations are woefully insufficient. It was under these circumstances the Rohingyas took permission to go fishing despite the threat of Rakhine attacks.
