A gang of seven to eight masked criminals attempted to attack chairman of Leda refugee camp, Hafez Ayub.
The incident took place at around 1.15 am on Monday night.
The criminals however did not find Ayub at his home at Block A, shed 11 and 12.
Instead they robbed the adjoining homes at shed 9 and 10, taking valuables at gunpoint.
At one point, the refugees became alerted to the presence of the criminals and they gathered together to apprehend them.
Surrounded by the villagers, the criminals fired four rounds of gunshots into the crowd. One of the refugees Siraj (25) got hit in the back as he turned to escape after the first shot was fired.
The criminals then escaped.
