Bangladesh security forces are on the offensive against the Rakhine insurgent outfit Arakan Army.
On Friday, Bangladesh forces took over a hideout of the Arakan Army in the remote Thanchi region of Bandarban.
Since Wednesday, Bangladesh has been building up their forces in the remote area bordering Burma after Arakan Army attacked and injured a paramilitary soldier, according to reports in Bangladesh media.
An Arakan Army spokesman however says they have no ill will against Bangladesh and this was an incident of ‘horrible misunderstanding’. Arakan Army also says Bangladesh forces opened fire on them as tried to explain their identity.
Earlier Bangladesh arrested at least suspected members of the Arakan Army.
Hundreds of militants from the Arakan Army had crossed over to the remote Bangladesh bordering region of Bandarban after fierce offensives by the Tatmadaw in April and May this year.
