Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued a ship that has been floating in the sea for the last few days.
Earlier, a Bangladesh passenger aboard the ship made a distress call to his relatives asking to be rescued. The story was related by the local media, but Bangladesh authorities refused to act saying the vessel was in Burmese waters.
On Wednesday morning, when the ship floated towards Bangladesh waters, Coast Guard launched an operation from St Martin’s Island and captured the ship.
All 116 passengers were bought to Teknaf at around noon after being given medical help in St Matin’s Island.
There are 22 Rohingya women among the passengers.
Those rescued have been living without food for many days.
