In the meeting, chief guest and commander of the Cox’s Bazar BGB sector, Colonel Md Khalekuzzaman accused Burmese Muslim refugees of spearheading crime in the area including yaba smuggling, human trafficking and other illicit operations.
The BGB officials also asked locals to help their personal apprehend Muslim refugees. BGB has already organised similar task forces near the Ukhiya border. The civilian taskforces have apprehended and robbed refugees as they tried to flee persecution from the Burmese regime and Buddhist nationalists.
Other speakers included former MP of the area Md Ali, commander of the BGB 42 battalion Lieutenant Abu Jahr Al Zahid, and other high ranking local politicians, police officers and government officials. Also present were local journalists.
