A Rohingya Muslim driver has been assaulted and fined following a car accident that bruised a Rakhine woman.
A Rakhine woman was crossing a road at Aung para, Prorapang, Buthidaung when the public jeep driver Hashem (32), s/o Nurul Haque casued the accident. The woman was not injured.
However when a Rakhine community leader, Monshata heard the incident, he raised a hue and a cry on how Muslims were injuring Rakhine women intentionally. He asked Hashem to pay 160,000 kyats.
When BGP heard about the incident, they said Hashem should pay them too. When he did not come up with the payment, BGP arrested Hashem at around 4 pm on February 14. They assaulted him mercilessly breaking one of his leg. He then paid them 50,000 kyats.
As an added measure, the BGP has ruled that every Muslim driver in the area must pay them 2000 kyats every week to carry on their business.
