BGP arrested and tortured three Rohingyas at Kullon, Maungdaw South on Thursday, according to our local correspondent.
Locals fear that one of the arrested Md Noor, s/o Md Zakaria might have died in torture. Inhumane torture of Muslims is increasingly common in Arakan where scores have died in custody in recent years.
Md Noor was arrested along with Md Abdul Salam, s/o Abdul Khalek on charges of aiding robbers. Locals say they are innocent.
Salam was heavily assaulted and humiliated in front of family members after BGP troops broke into his home at 11.30 am. He was then taken to custody where he was brutally tortured. Later he was released on the payment of 250,000 kyats.
A third man Mogul Ahmed, s/o Nabi Hossain was arrested by BGP at around 12.30 am. He was arrested for giving shelter to his son who had come back from Malaysia. BGP claimed that the son was not supposed to return to Arakan.
Mogul also faced inhumane torture in custody. He was later released on the payment of 150,000 kyats.
