At around Sunday evening, the situation in the Buthidaung villages of Fundu parang, Hansapara and Nayapara have taken a turn for the better.
The villages have been desrted in the last few days as locals feared a massacare by a Rakhine mob and security forces similar to Kiladong in 2014.
The last few days had seen a crackdown by securiy forces and the presence of hostile Buddhist nationalists in the neighbourhood. Trouble stareted when locals in Fundu parang refused to participate in the controversial census and fled their homes instead. Tensions escalated when Rohingyas in the neighbouring villages sheltered the fugitives and refused to let security forces apprehend them.
Local community leaders assured on Sunday that security forces will not crackdown and they are free to carry on with normal life. Tension is however still prevailing in the area.
