Police have arrested at least six people on charges of persuading people not to take part in the census.
The arrests have taken place at Zadi parang, Rathidaung on Monday.
The arrested have been identified as Md Ataullah (44) s/o Md Taj Uddin, Yousuf Jalal (52) s/o Sayed Ahmed, Md Ali (42) s/o of Hafez Ahmed, Iman Hussain (42) s/o of Faruk Ahmed, Abdu Salam (48) s/o Md Sultan, and Boni Amin (22) s/o Md Ayub.
Few people on the area have turned up for census protesting the decision by the government to register Rohingyas as Bengalis.
The government does not recognise the term Rohingya and insists they are illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh.
