As census continues, authorities and their henchmen known as the tabbes are extorting huge amounts for the population. Those not paying bribes are deleted from the list, paving their imminent harassment resulting in permanent exile.
Meanwhile in Kular Beel, Maungdaw South, a local community leader Mumon Rashid is extorting locals even without the knowledge of the authorities. He is preying on people who do not have any proof of identity which is a common occurrence in remote areas.
In other places, people are being forced to pay between 10,000- 15,000 kyats depending on their ability for infant children and new-borns. A higher amount is charged for marriages.
