An infant child has died in Mamra of Akyab and many more are falling sick in one of the worst hit areas of Arakan state. Three year Noor Nahar died on Saturday.
Foyeja para of Mamra has seen one of the worst damages caused by the floods and since the water receded, there has been an outbreak of diseases causing much suffering especially for the infant population.
Unlike other areas, there is a presence of aid agencies in the Rohingya areas. They are however short of resources and overwhelmed to deal with the catastrophe as the government tries its best to minimise aid efforts for the Muslims and help the Rakhines only.
In many other villages, aid has been directed by the government to reach only the Rakhine communities while totally ignoring the Rohingyas.
Meanwhile in some areas of Buthidaung and Rathedaung, village administrators and security forces seized aid from Rohingyas and distributed them among the Rakhines.
