Clashes erupted between Rohingya Muslim woodcutters and Rakhine miscreants near Godusera, Maungdaw South.
On Monday, seven Rohingya lumberjacks went to the hills for wood. There a group of Rakhine miscreants under the influence of intoxicants attacked them. The Rohingyas fought back chasing them away.
As they were returning from the woods, police arrested them and blamed them for instigating the conflict.
They have been taken to custody and brutally tortured. Four of the victims have been identified as Aman Ullah (45), Sogir Ahmed (35), Rae Ullah (50) and Johir Ahmed. The identities of the three others have not been confirmed.
Godusera is adjacent to the restive village tract of Kiladong where last year an attack by a Rakhine mob killed scores of Rohingya Muslims.
