A relief distribution programme held supposedly for the Rohingya Muslims by Maung Maung Ohn on his last day at office has been slammed as fake by local Rohingyas.
On Tuesday, Maung Ohn presided over a relief programme along with Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Nyanissara, amidst much fanfare and a strong message that the state government did not discriminate against the Muslim community. Rohingyas at Haindá fara, Maungdaw North however say the relief operation was a complete fake and only intended for the cameras.
Pictures show Rohingya men, many with the Muslim beard and donning Muslim attire gratefully accepting relief goods from Rakhine officials. Despite their Muslim attire, these men are known to be pro regime collaborators who have always worked against the interests of the Rohingyas Muslims.
Eyewitnesses say 5 kg of rice were indeed handed over to the government collaborators, but the cameras recorded a huge amount of aid given to the Rohingyas. In truth, the lion’s share if the aid was packed away when the ceremony was over and taken back.
Later the chief minster slammed unnamed Muslim activists for spreading malicious propaganda against the government alleging they were helping only the Buddhists.
However, according to testimonies of numerous sources, as well as reports in other Rohingya owned news mediums, it has been confirmed without doubt that the government intentionally bypassed the Muslims and helped only the Buddhists. The security forces went as far as to seize aid distributed for the Rohingyas and gave it back to the Rakhines. Some miscreants also seized aid given to the Muslim community in Buthidaung. Elsewhere, much of the aid was given to government collaborators who pocketed the aid and gave nothing to the flood affected people.
