Police and BGP raided Lamal para, Napiter Deel in Maungdaw on Tuesday morning.
At around 6am, a team of around fifty police and BGP entered the south side of the neighbourhood and broke into the house of Janey Alam. They turned his place upside down but did not find anything illegal. Alam was not in the house, but the police started interrogating a student from a nearby madrasa who had come to return a torch. On enquiry it came out that the 19year student Nurul Islam was a dining guest in the house. The security team started beating him viciously and arrested him.
The police and BGP then went to a nearby house belonging to a Rohingya man Jahangir Alam. Here they implicated the man with a Bangladesh SIM and accused him of keeping in touch with spies based in that country. He was also viciously beaten.
The two prisoners were continuously assaulted and taken to a nearby waiting truck. Then the police team broke into the house of another man Johir Alam(30). His place was also ransacked and although nothing was found, he too was beaten and taken to the truck. The police alleged that he was using his house as a rendezvous point for armed terrorists.
During this time, a neighbour Md Solim (28) peeked out of the window to see what was going on. Police arrested him too and beat him in public.
Another man Md Shafi (25) was coming to the bazar when he fell in front of the police team. He too was assaulted and picked up.
Later at around 2.15pm, Solim was released on the payment of 100,000 kyats. Locals said the others are being severely tortured in custody.
