An unidentified disease is killing livestock belonging to Rohingyas in the Rathedaung region. As a result of the epidemic, many destitute Rohingyas are losing everything they own.
In this part of the world, livestock is often the only asset for poor people. The death of a cow or goats leaves a family totally bankrupt. In such a scenario, the epidemic among cattle and goats are effectively destroying many Rohingyas.
Villagers in affected areas say that although the administration has been informed of the epidemic, they have not acted on it. Many say the government seems happy that another blow is dealt to the livelihoods of the Rohingyas without violence and thus the international media attention.
