The delegation of ERC[the European Rohingya Council] had attended at the regular session of UN Human Rights Council that was held on2-27 March, 2015 in Geneva.
Particularly, the ERC delegation highlighted the long plight of Rohingya and the ongoing state-sponsored violence against ethnic minority Rohingya in western part of Burma where Rohingyas face starvation, sickness, arbitrary arrest, torture in unknown detention centres, arson attack, rape, etc.
The lobby members— Dr. Ambia Parveen, Mr. Zahedul Haque and Mr. Ibrahim—including general secretary of ERC participated the panel discussion about the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
As well, the ERC delegates held talks with UN Special Rappoteur for human rights in Burma, Mrs. Yanghee Lee in her office of Geneva. They exchanged views based on the current discriminatory policies enacted against Rohingya in particular regarding white card issue. In conclusion, they submitted a paper in which it was written the systematic state-backed violence, harassment of Rakhine officials in IDP camps and discriminatory territorial orders enacted against Rohingya in western part of Burma.
Finally, the delegation raised the solid and clear Rohingya voice that the ethnic Rohingya community is not keen to divide from the Burma union but their long choice is to stay in Burma peacefully through a democratic co-existence system.
