A Rakhine headman and his Rohingya collaborators are harrassing locals at Khaira Bil, Maundaw North, according to our local correspondent.
U Ba Sein, the Rakhine headman who is the Aishwaramu of the area along with Azizul Haque, Din Mohammad and Abdul Rahim regularly extort money from villagers on flimsy grounds.
On Saturday alone, they extorted three people at random. Hazfez Shah Alam was fined 25,000 kyats for building a fence on his house. Rohingyas are forbidden to make adjustments to their houses without government permission. Abul Hashim was made to pay 35,000 kyats because his son stays in Malaysia. Another man Hafez Ahmed was accused of maintaining ties with Rohingya leaders based abroad and forced to pay 30,000 kyats.
Locals say that the men regularly squeeze whatever they can from poor villagers on made up charges.
