Police assisted by collaborators in Baas Sara and Kuaiccong of Maungdaw South are heavily taxing innocent Rohingyas after charging them with false allegations.
Repeated harassment by the police have left many innocent Rohingyas close to bankruptcy. Locals say at a time when livelihood options are extremely limited and there is hardly food on the table for the children, this activity by the police and government collaborators are a burden they cannot shoulder.
“My house was surrounded at 11pm yesterday by the police. Even though they found nothing, they accused me of using a smartphone and fined me 200,000 kyats,” one of the victims Abdur Rahman told locals on Saturday.
Many are spending sleepless nights fearing a knock on the door and false allegations by the police.
Three collaborators active in the area have been identified as Habi Rahman, Salamat Ullah and Kala Boda. Locals allege they are the ones pointing the homes of their fellow villagers to the security forces.
