Rohingya Muslims in Kula Bil, Maungdaw North have lost everything in an alleged arson attack, according to our local correspondent.
The fire that burned the house of Imam Hossain, a former Huk kata of the area is responsible for this loss.
Rohingyas in the area entrusted the well respected community elder with the responsibility of their valuables. Imam’s abode served as a safehouse where locals stored their life savings and other valuable assets like gold.
Locals say the information must have reached anti Muslim groups who are suspected to be behind a string of arson attacks over the past few few weeks.
On Friday, a fire suddenly engulfed Imam’s house burning the property within minutes. Residents barely managed to escape but everything inside was burned.
The incident has left Imam and fellow villagers shattered. Victims say that they had lost everything for which they have struggled through their life.
