A huge fire burned down 28 houses, a madrasa and a masjid in Darpaing sara, Buthidaung, according to locals.
The fire occurred at around 3.30 pm on Thursday from a stove. No lives were lost but livestock including cows perished in the fire.
Locals say that as soon as a woman was cooking vegetables, fire quickly spread to surrounding areas. Her husband was later arrested by police.
The cause if the fire has not been confirmed.
Some locals say it is accidental.
Others say that the speed with which the fire spread points to foul play.
Since February, a string of mysterious fires have destroyed Rohingya houses. In many cases the government arrested the victims alleging they set fire to their own houses to discredit Buddhist nationalist groups.
In some cases, 969 members have been seen near the site of fire.
