A group of Rohingya fishermen were attacked by Rakhine miscreants near their village in Sainga Dong in Kyauktaw.
On Wednesday, four fishermen were returning to their homes when around nine Rakhines on two boats intercepted them at around 5.30 pm. Three of the fishermen managed to jump from their boats but one was caught.
The Rakhines took him to a nearby island and mercilessly beat him up. He was left unconscious. Villagers alerted to the incident later rescued him in the evening.
Rohingyas in this area live in a semi blockade situation and are often prevented from going out of their villages to earn a livelihood. Many Rohingyas fishing in the rivers or collecting wood have faced xenophobic attacks from Rakhine gangs.
