Five women have been arrested by security forces in Hashurata of Maungdaw South on Sunday.
The women were arrested in connection of the shooting of tabbe Sawdeya Oo on Friday. Following their arrest of these women, their relatives have not been able to get in touch with them.
Sources say the women have been brutally tortured in custody. The condition of one of the women is especially bad after she was brutally beaten up by the police in custody.
On Sunday, police raided the houses of Rohingyas living in the Bodu para area of Hashurata and not finding the men folk, arrested these women.
Sources say they were especially looking for Foyez Ullah, Enayet Ullah and Abdur Rahman. The arrested women are the wives, sisters and daughters of these three men.
Villagers however say the three men were at the wrong place at the wrong time and had nothing to do with the shooting of tabbe Sawdeya.
In recent years, when security forces do not find the men folk, they often arrest their wives and daughters. In 2014, a Rakhine mob backed by security forces killed more than forty women and children after they were unable to locate the men in nearby Kiladong.
