The flood situation deteriorated in Buthidaung where large areas went under water. The villages of Moidong and Zang Hama completely went under water since Friday night.
The government immediately evacuated Rakhine villagers by boat and moved them to a community centre. However the Rohingyas were ordered not to move out of their neighbourhoods.
As a result, all Rohingyas are spending their days in the water. Locals say many of their children are falling sick.
There is no drinking water and locals are forced to drink the floodwater, which might be the reason for the deteriorating health of the children. There is also no place to cook and sanitation facilities have also gone underwater.
No humanitarian organisations have yet reached the area.
Meanwhile residents of Akyab IDP camps are being moved to higher grounds by NGOs operating in the area.
Heavy rain in the last few days have submerged the camps creating a disaster for the residents. The land were the IDP camps are situated are not used for human habitation in normal times. These places were allocated for those displaced in the 2012 violence by the government.
Attempts to relocate them have been opposed by nationalist groups.
