Four people have been arrested for the murder of a Rakhine man in Pungná cwéng, Akyab, according to our local correspondent.
On Tuesday, Rahmat Ali (40) and his son Md Ali (19) noticed a dead body of a Rakhine man floating in the Kaladan river near their village. They immediately informed their Rakhine neighbours of the body.
The Rakhine men however accused the father and son of committing the murder. They were then inhumanely beaten till their body was broken and they lost consciousness.
Later the police also alleged that father and son, along with two other Muslim men had stabbed the Rakhine man. Post mortem shows he died from two strikes of a sharp weapon in the back.
The identity of the two other men could not be confirmed.
Locals say that the dead man is a fisherman who had been stabbed by influential local Rakhines who then shifted the blame on Rohingyas.
