Three Rohingya infants and an elderly woman have died from diarrhoea in Bangladesh on Thursday.
The deaths come as Bangladesh government continue to deny humanitarian assistance to refugees in Leda camp. Residents of this overcrowded camp are cut off from basic facilities including water and healthcare. Since February, scores of refugees mostly infants have died from water borne diseases and lack of medical care in this camp.
Meanwhile the situation around the coastal villages in Shaplapur is also bad. Here the Bangladesh government has carried out an eviction drive destroying the homes of all Rohingya refugees in the area. Rohingyas have been forced to live out in the open since then.
The dead are 65 year old Nosima Bibi from Leda camp, two and a half year Rafiya Bibi from Shaplapur, two year Ibrahim from Shaplapur and an unnamed child of a few days in Leda camp.
Out of them, Rafiya’s dad has been missing for the last three years, presumed to be kidnapped by Thailand bound traffickers
