An innocent man arrested in Maungdaw South has been subjected to brutal torture in prison and remains locked up more than a month following his arrest.
40 year Kabir Ahmed from Godusera was arrested by police along with six others on May 20. Although the others were released the next day for a payment of 100,000 kyats each, Kabir remains locked away and faces torture on a daily basis.
The six others were also tortured in custody. The condition of Kabir is however alarming due to daily torture.
On May 20, a group of Rakhine miscreants under the influence of alcohol attacked this group of Rohingyas as they went into the woods to collect wood. Led by Kabir, the Rohingyas managed to fend them off.
The Rakhines then brought the police over and arrested the Rohingyas.
