Rohingya Muslims in Kyauktaw are passing their days in terror after an unknown group seems to be implicating them in the recent army insurgent clash.
On Wednesday and Thursday, some Rohingya Muslims received text messages saying that once Arakan is made independent from the Burmese, the Rakhines and Rohingyas would leave in harmony.
However the Muslims say that this is a ploy by groups such as the 969 movement to implicate them in the recent clashes.
Armed conflict has broken out in the area following clashes between the Arakan Army and the military. The security forces have cracked down heavily on Rakhine villages.
Muslims say that over the past few days, it is the Rakhines who have been at the receiving end of a state crackdown. In Arakan, where the targets are Muslims, this has been a bitter pill to swallow for many. Buddhist nationalist groups such as the 969 movement want to shift the army crackdown on the Muslims. That is the reason for these mysterious messages.
Rohingya Muslims also say that in the light of recent incidents, there is absolutely no reason to help Rakhine insurgents.
