Since Wednesday, busloads of police and Rakhine men have been scouring Maungdaw town and arbitrarily harassing Rohingya Muslim men.
Locals say that everyone on the street is stopped and searched for Bangladesh mobile. Some of the men have also been picked up and taken to jail.
“When one bus goes, another comes,” says a local Muslim man. He alleges that there is more than a single search per day.
The Rakhine men are also marching through the narrow lanes of Rohingya neighbourhoods advertising their presence and threatening the locals.
The heavy presence of security forces and Rakhine men in the last three days has created alarm among the general Muslim populace.
