Sittwe Correspondent: Rohingya inhabitants of Laa Ma Chay, Thakkey Pyin and other villages of Sittwe, capital of Arakan state are subjected to various harassments of Hlun Thein, army and traffic police, according to a villager.
The Rohingya residents, Specially of Laa Ma Chay, Thakkey Pyin of Sittwe do movement by the road leading to Township where the Hlun Thein forces keep on security duty from dawn to sundown at the check point stationed on the road between the Town and the Laa Ma Chay, Thakkey Pyin villages.
There, the Rohingya pedestrians are harassed by Hlun Thein forces like snatch money, seize mobile phone and motor bikes and release after extorting money, beat if fail to give money, make sit down for hours and so on.
The army and traffic police also sit at the exit point of Thakkey Pyin and do the above harassment in different forms like the Hlun Thein forces frequently.
Therefore, the residents of the villages express their deep concern over the continuous and arbitrary harassment by Hlun Thein, military and traffic police on the way to Township and villages.
Now it has become very difficult for them to move from Township to villages and villages to Township for emergency purposes. The residents are facing hardship to support their families since they can’t move freely to earn their livelihood nowadays in Sittwe, said Nur Mohamed, a trader.
