Police have released Master Ershad Ullah on Saturday in Khadir Beel, Maungdaw.
Ershad was arrested by police on Thursday night on charges of murder community leader Md Jokir.
Jokir, a regime sympathiser was hacked to death on January 25. His arrests provoked a security crackdown by police and BGP who went around Rohingya houses threatening and vandalising Rohingya property.
Ershad’s release comes following intense lobbying from locals who say that Ershad had nothing to do with the murder.
He was then released on the payment of 200,000 kyats.
Ershad is popular among the local people for his humanitarian work.
Locals allege that since the murder, tabbes (government collaborators) from surrounding regions have flocked to Khadir Beel. One of these tabbes Abdus Sabbir is alleged to have pointed the finger at Ershad.
Meanwhile tense situation is prevailing in Khadir Beel.
