An estimated 750 people from 105 families in the Kilipara IDP camp near Akyab are without shelter as their huts burnt down.
A damage of 8 million kyats has been estimated.
The cause of fire is considered accidental, according to local sources.
Rohingya refugees in IDP camps face one of the world’s worst humanitarian situation. The loss of their threadbare shelter will alleviate their sufferings.
Refugees in IDP camps were driven out of their homes by Rakhine mobs who have taken over their property.
Out of the estimated one million Rohingya population currently inside the country, approximately 140,000 live in the IDP camps. They are prevented from leaving the camps by security forces guarding them are thus totally dependent on hand-outs from relief organisations.
Anti-Muslim groups backed by the government however prevent sufficient aid from reaching these camps. In such a situation, the loss of shelters will be particularly painful for these refugees.
