The government of India held a meeting over concerns of radicalisation among Rohingya refugees settling in that country. Top officials from seven states including Jammu and Kashmir were present in the meeting on Monday.
“Rohingya Muslims are ‘persecuted’ in their homeland in Myanmar. Hence, there is a fear that the members of the community could be vulnerable to radicalisation. We have to be cautious before things go out of hand,” an official told Indian media.
The officials expressed concerns with the inter marriage and close relations developing between Rohingya refugees and Kashmiri Muslims.
There are around one hundred thousand Rohingyas in India, according to government estimates.
