Rohingya refugees in India met with minister of state for Agriculture and Food Processing Dr Sanjeev Balyan on Sunday.
During the meeting, Dr Balyan pledged his support for the Rohingya Muslim community and said his government was aware of the persecution they faced in their home country.
The Indian state minister also assured the Rohingyas that India was sympathetic towards their community. He welcomed the refugees in the country and said the Indian government would move to ensure basic rights for the community.
He said as long as the Rohingyas abided by the laws of India, they were welcome here.
The Rohingya refugees present at the meeting thanked Dr Balyan for seeing them and expressed hope they would construct a fruitful relationship.
