Police have arrested an innocent man related to the murder of a tabbe in Arla para, Maungdaw North on Wednesday, according to our local correspondent.
Syed Hossain (40) s/o Rajak Ali was pointed out by tabbes after he refused to pay extortion money to them. Those arrested are often tortured mercilessly by police. Scores of Muslims have died in custody following following torture since 2012.
Locals say that since the murder of tabbe Shawkat, three other Rohingyas have come at the forefront as powerful government collaborators in the area. They extort innocent men and if they refuse to pay, they are arrested by police.
The three tabbes are Md Amin, Md Siddique and Mohib. They operate under the leadership of a powerful Rakhine politician in the area.
Earlier, tabbe Shawkat was murdered allegedly by three Rohingya Muslim men who accused him of committing gross human rights violations. The three men have since fled to foreign countries.
