Military has prepared a list of human traffickers at Baás Sára, Maungdaw South. The people on the list are all innocent Rohingyas making a honest living, according to local sources.
The Rohingyas targeted by the military are a bit more well off than average villagers and able to pay a convenient sum to have their names cancelled.
So far starting from Monday, the military extorted money from seven villagers.
One victim, 27 year Md Nayan said that men from the armed forces suddenly turned up in front of his house on Thursday. They slapped him and said unless he would pay 250,000 kyats this instant, he would be taken to the base and beaten up.
Victims are being made to pay anything from 50,000 kyats to a maximum of 250,000 kyats depending on their financial status.
Earlier, our correspondents from different parts of the state put together reports saying the government is preparing a list of educated Rohingyas involved in social work and will arrest them as human traffickers. Meanwhile in many villages, some the marked human traffickers have returned to the locality after a lull of one month. Their presence is creating panic among the locals but the government seems unlikely to take any action. Many in the administration most notably the BGP is in close cohorts with traffickers.
