One Kachin child has died from the cold at a refugee camp situated alongside the Chinese border.
Severe cold in the mountainous region has brought new hardships for the displaced Kachin population following hostilities with the army that started in 2011.
Many others are reported to be suffering from cold related diseases. Medical care is difficult to access in these refugee camps.
Despite some optimism in diplomatic circles, sources on the ground say that the hardships of the Kachin people have not eased.
Burma has witnessed one of the longest running ethnic wars in modern history.
