Tortured to death in custody
A 65 year old man has died in custody after enduring torture for more than a year.
Kamal Uddin, s/o Jamal Uddin died in Maungdaw prison after Tuesday midnight. Following intense torture last year, his body had swollen up.
His body was returned to his home village in Al rua, Du Char Yar Taan (Kiladong) at around 4.30 pm, Wednesday.
Kamal was arrested with seven others from Kiladong on charges of murdering a policeman. The alleged murder of the policeman, which followed the beheading of eight Muslims, resulted in the bloody massacre of innocent civilians, most of them women and children.
In the aftermath, the government cracked down on Kiladong residents, causing more deaths. Many were also arrested and tortured in custody.
Other men arrested alongside Kamal on fabricated charges have also faced inhumane torture in custody and are in near death circumstances. They are Dobir Ullah s/o Nazir Uddin (75), Md Shomsu s/o Bodi Alam (45), Rahman Ali s/o Halu (35) and Zahid Alam s/o Ali Ahmed (30).
Meanwhile two others arrested from Kiladong are also on their death beds. They are Abdu Moanf and Md Ayoju.
There are many prisoners arrested from Kiladong who have faced medieval torture for over a year.
