A Rohingya refugee woman from Bangladesh has been arrested in Maungdaw by Hlun Htein and transferred to the infamous Buthidaung jail.
29 year Arefa Begum from Leda refugee camp has been conducting an export import business in the guise of a Bengali national for the past year. On August 16, as she was returning to the Bangladesh border town of Teknaf from Maungdaw, Hlun Htein officials stopped and started interrogating her on suspicion. Soon they managed to identify her as a Rohingya.
Afterwards they accused Arefa of becoming involved in subversive activities and handed her to the police.
From there she was transferred to the infamous Buthidaung jail. The prison has become known for the harsh torture petted out to Muslim prisoners. More than a hundred Muslims have died under torture in custody since 2012.
There are reports that Arefa has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
