A Rohingya man was brutally assaulted and left to die in the hills by the military, according to our local correspondent.
Last Friday, Md Amin (20) had gone to the hills near Nurulla para, Maungdaw South to collect wood. Here the military beat him till he was unconscious.
The battered body of Amin was later found by other lumberjacks.
Amin is still in a critical situation. His ordeal has been made worse because of the difficulties involved in admitting Rohingya patients into hospital.
In the past few weeks, security forces have cracked down on lumberjacks and fishermen, the last means of livelihood for the vast majority of Rohingya Muslims. This crackdown looks like a further attempt to completely starve the Rohingyas and force them to leave Arakan, say locals.
