A madrasa teacher is supervising a kidnapping ring in Hashurata, Maungdaw South.
Maulavi Bashir s/o Moggol is kidnapping madrasa students from his institution and putting them on a Malaysia boat. So far around 10 boys are missing from this religious school.
Maulavi Bashir’s appointment was done against the wishes of the madrasa board in Bodupara. When he was initially rejected for the job, authorities intervened on his behalf and threatened the board with consequences if Bashir was not appointed.
But Bashir, instead of concentrating on religious training, is kidnapping children at late night and putting them on the boat. Other tabbes of the region – Nur us Salam, Fazal, Rashid and Hashim are also involved in the syndicate.
As the boys staying overnight in the madrasas are outsiders, local sources have not been able to confirm their identities. Many local people say that if Bashir is allowed to continue in the madrasa, all the boys staying overnight will disappear.
As the boys are outsiders, it takes awhile before locals know they are missing.
In the last few days, Bashir has also been asking little girls in the madrasa about pretty girls in the area. This has created panic among villagers as they fear the trafficking ring will now start kidnapping women from their homes to be sold in Thailand.
The syndicate is well protected by the BGP. Tabbe Saudia is considered the actual ring leader of the group.
