A Malaysian aid group was denied permission by Bangladesh immigration authorities to distribute aid among Rohingya refugees.
Representatives from Al-Itisam Releif Program landed in Dhaka airport on Thursday morning but on discussing their purpose of visit, Bangladesh immigration officials said they were granted visa only for participating in spiritual affairs conducted by Tabligh Jamat. When the Malaysians expressed their surprise saying they were not here for Tabligh activities, the immigration officials said they will be arrested if they distributed aid among refugees.
The Malaysian team went back on a 9 o clock flight back to Kuala Lampur.
Bangladesh government does not encourage aid distribution among Rohingya refugees. In March, the government shut down all aid operations in the Leda refugee camp where a desperate humanitarian situation still prevails.
The humanitarian situation of Shaplapur where thousands of Rohingyas were evicted in March is also bad.
Many Rohingya children die from malnutrition and lack of healthcare in these areas.
