A victim of human trafficking told his family by phone that along with 49 others, he is being held captive on the Thai Malaysian border.
There are seven women in this group held hostage by a trafficker who calls himself Zafar Alam.
The victim told his family on Saturday that he has been paralysed by the constant torture meted to him everyday.
Zafar Alam himself spoke by phone and said he will let the victim go for 3,000 Ringgits. He said he was not making any profits but due to the trouble in Thailand, he was eager to seal off the deal. In normal circumstances he would not have budged under 5,000 Ringgits. But he said if the money was not paid within a day or two, he will beat the man to death.
He claimed to be in Penang and spoke from a Malaysian phone number. He said that he had bought every victim from a Thailand trafficker for 3000 Ringgits and smuggled them over the border into Malaysia.
Allegations of the existence of slave labour camps on Malaysian soil surfaced recently.
