A man was ruthlessly beaten up by members of the security forces for alleged connections with terror group IS.
On the Sunday night, six Hlun Htein men entered Longdoon in Maungdaw North and knocked in the shop of Hafez Arafat. Hlun Htein told the shopkeeper that they had information he was in touch with foreign terrorists.
They proceeded to search the shop but did not find anything suspicious. The Hlun Htein then implicated him with a Bangladesh SIM card and then told Arafat he was using this number to keep in touch with terrorists based in Bangladesh.
Arafat protested saying he did not have a Bangladesh phone, but the Hlun Htein proceeded to grievously assault him, causing multiple injuries to his head and rib cage area.
Hearing his shouts, his wife rushed to the scene and tried to negotiate with the security forces. The Hlun Htein agreed to go away after the payment of 300,000 kyats.
Arafat is still in a critical condition.
